I finished my 5th (!!) self-produced album this past week. After too many late nights on the keys and drum machine, mixing, writing, tracking, sequencing, etc., it's finally done. There's no way I can convey how challenging yet gratifying the process has been. It's the culmination of 4 months of work, so the least you can do is give it a 70-something minute listen, right...? This album was done in conjunction with my boy Niyre Merriweather (aka OH Boi), who sings and raps. He's a talented singer, so in order to showcase our range, the albums roughly 1/2 hip-hop and 1/2 R&B/soul. MUCH LOVE to brother Abdi for the album art. This dude is seriously blessed, for real. Thanks to Johann for hooking up the site too, we couldn't have done it without you. Anyway, here's the official promo blurb:
What you're about to listen to is the product of months of blood, sweat, and tears. While it will only take an hour of your time, it's also the sum of two brief lifetimes' worth of musical experience. Grueling late-night/early morning sessions, heated debates over content, meticulous rewrites, nuanced remixes, and the evolution of an artistic partnership were only a part of this journey. So glimpse, if you will, into the minds of two young men who wish to share their gifts with you. And remember, they don't have dark thoughts, they're just some BlackMindz.
You can download it gratis (that's "free" for the Latin impaired) at otherground.net/releases. Donations are strongly encouraged, and you can have your own hard copy (complete with the insert tracklistings and shout outs) for a mere $10.00. You can also purchases copies of my old stuff on there.
Feedback is welcome and appreciated, and I hope you enjoy!
P.S.
Anyone who said hip-hop is dead must be asleep.
